Fourth Grade Take Home Note

September 10th-September 14^th, 2012

• Many students are lacking knowledge of their multiplication facts!  Without this basic knowledge of facts, students may fall behind in math this year.  10 or 15 minutes a night of studying multiplication facts or first thing in the morning will promote this essential learning and pave the way for success with future math assignments.

• Early Release Day: Friday, September 28^th at 1:10.

• Field Day for intermediate: Wednesday, September 26^th.

• Thursday, September 1st was our school wide cookie dough kick off! What a fantastic fundraiser this has been in the past for our school. Keep selling those cookies!

• September 12^th, individual school picture retakes.

• Parent Teacher Conferences, October 17-18th. If you haven’t already signed up for a time, let me know.

Students are working on getting their class work and homework in on time. Students are responsible for bringing a late assignment note home for any missing homework.  This is a fourth grade expectation and a sign of responsibility.

Writing homework:

a.           Look for meaningful object or photo to bring and share.

b.           Write a paragraph describing a special time spent with a friend.

c.       Please go to the link below and play Meteor Multiplication.  I worked through all six stages and my final score was 23 math meteors in one minute.  See if you can beat me!  If you complete all six stages there will be an opportunity for you to print out a completion certificate.  Print out the certificate and bring it to me by Friday and I'll pay you 5 PAWS!

Fourth Grade News

September 4th –September 7th, 2012

• What a delight this week has been! It was wonderful meeting you all at the Ice Cream Social and look forward to talking to you at parent orientation. I feel honored to be teaching at VanArsdale and look forward to working with your son or daughter and you this school year.
• Parent Orientation Night: In the library from 5:30-6:10 p.m.


• Needed: paper towel rolls (one for each student).


• Book orders: through scholastic book orders, our class will use extra “book points” to fill our classroom library with the top ten books we select each order we make. So, by placing an individual order, we are adding books to our library! Look for a flyer in the next couple of weeks
• Our Fourth Grade Homework and news from our classroom will be sent electronically via this blog each week. Please assist your son/daughter in logging onto the blog especially as they get used to the process.
• In addition to the homework found on our blog, we will be sending home math homework (this math homework will directly relate to what we are studying that day in math and due the very next day) throughout the week and any assignments not completed in class should also be taken home and finished there. • Please read the following text. Complete the graphic organizer on a sheet of notebook paper writing the main idea and supporting details.

The fastest wind ever recorded was on Mount Washington in New Hampshire. In 1934, the wind blew 231 miles an hour across the top of the mountain. The wind is so fierce there that chains are anchored in solid rock to keep the weather station from blowing away.

May 21st - 25th, 2012

• The wax museum was a huge sucess! Thank you to all the parents and relatives that attended. Thank you also for the extra help pulling together costumes and helping students practice speeches.
• Last reaction sheet and reading log of the year was sent home in this Friday folder! Also, last blog homework is this one!
• It is amazing to me that this fourth grade year is drawing to a close!  I consider myself blessed to have spent this year with such a wonderful group of kids!   It has been my honor and privilege to be their teacher!  Thank you for sharing them with me.  Have a wonderful summer.
• Dissecting Owl Pellets: Monday, May 21^st at 10:40. If you are interested in helping with this hands-on science project please let me know.
• End of the year picnic:  May 31st.  Our class be celebrating the end of a great year with a picnic in the park.  We will walk over to the park next to the school. Students need to bring a sack lunch and a drink. We would love to have donations of dessert items. Please let me know if you can donate a plate of cookies, brownies or other desserts.
• Report Cards will come home with your son/daughter Thursday, May 31st..
• Monday, May 28th – No school, Memorial Day.
• Last day of school –Thursday, May 31st  School ends at 1:40.
• Look Out Mountain: field trip, Tuesday, May 29th from 9:15-1:30. Students will need to bring a sack lunch, comfortable hiking shoes and dress for the weather.

1.  Science: students need to be working on their ecosystem habitat project.  Some in class time was given; however, time researching, writing, revising, editing and final production also must be worked on at home. A rubric, flip book, and mini ecoystem tag board prop was given to each student in class. The final project will be due Tuesday, May 29th, 2012.

2. Spelling and science Test:  Placing and correct spellling of the bones test will be given Friday, May 25th.  I've included a copy of the sheet students should study from.

May 14th - 18th, 2012

• WAX Museum, this Friday, May 18th. Students come to schoold dressed as their notable person. We will start our presentations at 9:05 a.m. Students need to bring a change of clothes for the rest of our school day.
• No Reaction sheet this week due to conferences.
• NO REGULAR HOMEWORK or WORD WORK (reading log is still required through the 25^th): will be given for the rest of the school year due to the fact that students need to be working on their ecosystem habitat project,   and other in class work. Some in class time is given; however, time researching, writing, revising, editing and final production also must be worked on at home.  The final project will be due Tuesday, May 29th, 2012.

• Book Fiesta: Students bring in their gently used books to donate for our all school book swap. Books can be brought to school starting this Monday, May 14th. For each book they donate, they will receive a ticket to enter in a chance to win a prize.

2. Practice 3 digit by 3 digit multiplication. (Example:  284 x 398 = ?)Make-up 6 problems and solve them.  Check your work with a calculator. Due Friday.
